Half Gods

2018 - present

When I walk through forests in the Pacific Northwest, whether they are second, third or fourth growth stands, sitting between the trees are stumps, nearly mythological in size. I wonder, were humans that much bigger too? Nearly spiritual, they squat like a totem or headstone. In a few generations these stumps will finish their decomposition, at which point people will walk through and no longer wonder, how big would of I been?

“Already the trees are a myth, half gods, half giants in whom nobody believes”. -Nancy Willard

“Who is alive? The woods are dead.” -Emily Carr
